AcupunctureAs a complement to Western medicine, we have a certified veterinary acupuncturist available to treat your pet's ailments and help alleviate discomfort.AnesthesiaA full array of the safest anesthetic agents available are routinely used in the surgery areas. All patients undergoing major surgical procedures are routinely monitored for blood pressure and by continuous electrocardiogram and pulse oximeter.Cancer Treatment (Chemotherapy)Should your pet sadly be diagnosed with cancer, we can provide the latest in chemotherapeutic treatments following protocols from the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital's Oncology service. These protocols have been developed to help provide palliation of the disease while maintaining a good quality of life for your pet.DentistryThe #1 health problem diagnosed in pets over three years of age is periodontal disease. Prophylactic cleaning of teeth will prevent gum disease, halitosis, tooth loss and serious infection in the liver, heart and kidneys.Immunization ProgramsVaccination is the main weapon against such diseases as distemper, hepatitis, rabies, parvovirus, upper respiratory infection and feline leukemia. Each individual pet's risk factors will be evaluated to determine which immunizations are necessary.Internal MedicinePatients receive care in all areas of internal medicine from dermatology to oncology. Diagnostic equipment is on hand and outside lab services can assist the veterinarians in making a diagnosis.International Travel ConsultationOur staff will help you with the paperwork and all requirements necessary to travel to any country with your pet. We provide paperwork for taking your pet to anywhere from Hawaii to Europe or Australia. We use a microchip that can be scanned internationally (see Microchip Identification below).Laboratory TestingWe utilize both in-house and off-site laboratory testing of blood and urine to help identify and screen for potential liver, kidney, endocrine, and other problems before they become serious.Microchip IdentificationWe can give your pet a permanent form of identification, a microchip with a unique number that cannot be altered. The microchip is quickly and painlessly implanted into your pet, enabling your pet to be easily identified and returned to you if ever lost. We use Res-Q, a microchip recently introduced by the Bayer Corporation, which can be scanned internationally.Nutritional CounselingGood nutrition plays an important role in your pet's health. Our staff will work with you to determine the very best diet to suit your pet's individual needs, ranging from those with specific medical disorders to basic life stage diets.Pain ManagementManaging your pet's pain is an important part of our commitment to your pet's health. Pain management helps your pet feel better more quickly and may prevent adverse medical consequences associated with uncontrolled pain. We assess each patient's pain individually and administer analgesic (pain relieving) medication in an injectable form in the hospital and/or an oral form for you to take home.Parasite PreventionIntestinal parasites are a common problem for pets in urban areas. Canine Heartworm Disease is a life-threatening mosquito-borne blood parasite. Many of these parasites can be transmissible to you and your family. Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis are two tick transmitted diseases frequently diagnosed in Marin. We offer effective procedures for the detection, treatment and prevention of these parasites as well as external parasites (fleas, ticks and mange).PharmacyAn inventory of the latest pharmaceuticals and prescription diets is on hand to help our staff implement custom-tailored therapy for your pet. You may also elect to have us phone or fax a prescription to the pharmacy of your choice.Radiology/ImagingX-ray facilities here at our hospital enable us to conduct studies from the routine (chest and bone films) to the sophisticated (contrast radiography). We also regularly bring in a board-certified radiologist to perform ultrasound and other specialized diagnostic imaging.SpecialistsWe work closely with numerous specialists located in Marin County and other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area. We also provide referrals to the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital when needed or desired. We will work closely with you to find the right veterinary specialist to help your pet with a complicated disorder.SurgeryThe hospital has a fully equipped surgical suite. Major surgical procedures are performed in this area, where a thoroughly trained technical staff is available to assist the veterinarians. Visiting specialists are called in to consult and perform more complicated procedures if needed. |
